The 49er Rotary Club (our shorter nickname) was officially chartered on November 6, 1990, with 42 charter members. The goal was to provide a morning club for the area, which met for one hour. Since it's charter, the club has grown to over 90 members and is quite active in the community, as well as internationally. Our group works hard, but has a lot of fun!
Club members have the opportunity to participate in hands-on projects such as helping refurbish the waiting room at a community medical clinic, building sports fields for kids, helping provide better housing for people living at the Mexico City dump...or any number of interesting projects. You can make changes in your community and the world, while enjoying the friendships that come from being part of a dynamic and fun group of community leaders.
Through membership in the 49er Rotary Club, not only can you serve your community and the world, but you can make friendships that will last a lifetime. Regular meetings and special events contribute to a strong sense of camaraderie among the members. Weekly breakfast meetings include lots of good humor, as well as programs which can be entertaining, thought provoking, informative -- sometimes all three. Some of our best programs are when members talk about themselves and their vocations.
Each year the 49er Rotary Club holds New Member Mixers, a Holiday Party and "Demotion", whre the outgoing Club President is roasted. Fellowship events have also included a family pool party, ball games, concerts, and live theater performances.
On a more serious note, the Club provides support for its fellow members in times of personal need, by providing transportation, meals, company or other special requests.
