ROTARY INTERNATIONAL
OVER 100 YEARS OF SERVICE
Rotary International is a global network of community volunteers. Members are business and professional leaders who provide service to their communities and the world, encourage high ethical standards and help build goodwill and peace in the world.
Service Above Self, Rotary's motto, exemplifies the humanitarian spirit of the organization's more than 1.2 million members. Projects in their local communities address such critical issues as poverty, health, hunger, illiteracy, and the environment. Rotary was founded in 1905 by Paul Harris who organized the first meeting in his Chicago law office. This led to the formation of the Rotary Club of Chicago. As growth occurred and clubs were formed outside the United States, International was added to the organization's name.
ROTARY'S VISION is that "Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change - across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves."
ROTARY'S OBJECTIVE is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;

The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
